The demining sector of the Millennium Team company participated in the expert meeting “Explosive Ordnance Seminar Europe 2024”, which was held on June 11 and 12 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Belgrade. The seminar brought together representatives of domestic, regional and international institutions and companies dealing with humanitarian demining, equipment production and other related activities.
The expert meeting was organized by the company Intelligence-Sec, with the support of several domestic and foreign organizations and companies, including Millennium Team, which, as a conference platinum sponsor, shared its experiences in the field of humanitarian demining.
At the seminar, participants and guests had the opportunity to learn about the national strategies and practices of individual countries in the region, the challenges and techniques of underwater demining, and the issues such as the re-establishment of communities and infrastructure in post-war circumstances, technological development and international cooperation in the field of removing unexploded ordnance and other weapons were also discussed.
“This seminar is an exceptional opportunity for networking with other companies from the region dealing with the same topic, since Millennium Team is one of the leading companies in our region in this field.” Today we presented several of our reference projects where we talked in more detail about our modern approach, work methodology and outstanding results. Millennium Team has surveyed more than 37 million square meters of surface so far. The Balkan region is still very polluted with unexploded ordnance, and we have a long way to go before the entire region is cleared,” said Vuk Radović, Director of the Demining Sector in Millennium Team.
Among other things, he presented Millennium Team’s work on the project of removing sunken German war fleet from the Danube near Prahovo. This project has strategic importance for domestic and international river traffic. It is an extremely complex and long-term operation involving a series of systematic investigations, as well as the demining of unexploded mines and other ordnance on the river bottom and inside sunken vessels. Clearing the course of the Danube near Prahovo is a unique undertaking on a European scale in terms of its complexity. The work started in July last year, and the goal is to remove sunken ships and improve safety and conditions for navigation in this part of the international waterway, which is in line with the EU transport system development plans.
In the previous phases of work at this location, Millennium Team successfully completed the report on the presence of UXO on sunken German ships in the Prahovo area in 2021. A detailed survey of the riverbed from 857 to 862 kilometers of the waterway revealed that for eight decades the Danube has been hiding a total of 40 shipwrecks, significantly more than it was assumed.
